Program

It is our intent at M&M Equestrian Center to share ALL the wonderful aspects of equine activities. We strive to create a community oriented culture and develop friendships centered around these amazing horses. We welcome all people, encourage diversity and teamwork.

Campers will help catch, groom, and saddle their camp horse. Then spend their camp day taking riding lessons, playing games on horseback. Each camper will work with the horses over the course of the week. They are placed in small riding skill groups and work with their instructor to improve their riding skills during the camp. We teach campers how to understand the horses body language and how the campers body language communicates to the horse. Our goal is to build a true trust based relationship, built with love, leadership and respect. Building a solid foundation of horsemanship that can be built upon and used in any discipline.

Campers enjoy the fresh outdoor air, learn farm life and interact with farm animals- goats, horses, mini horse, mini donkey and barn cats. We focus on kindness to each other and animals. In the hot afternoons, we tube down our creek and fish in the ponds.

This is a working camp: Campers are expected to participate in the daily chores and activities involved in horse care and responsibility. We instill a positive work ethic and sense of responsibility and accountability in our young riders that provides positive self-esteem and confidence in overcoming obstacles, mastering communication skills and developing a great sense of teamwork.

Benefits

Riding is terrific exercise. Apart from its aerobic benefits, riding also helps a youngster develop balance, coordination, and flexibility.

Riding offers much more than equestrian know-how.  Here's why horses can be a life-enhancing choice for your child:

"If your child likes animals and you're concerned about that child's problem solving, goal-setting, or decision-making skills, then definitely get him or her involved with horses…" ~ Ann Swinker, Ph.D., Doctor of Animal Science at Penn State University

Horses make wonderful childhood companions. Children are naturally attracted to them, and that makes horses a desirable alternative to TV-watching, Internet-surfing, or just "hanging out." Horseback riding also puts children in touch with nature.

Handling, riding, and caring for a horse or pony can develop a host of positive traits in a child, including responsibility, accountability, patience, levelheadedness, empathy, kindness, and self-discipline.

Your child will experience good-ole fashion ranch life. No electronics or cell phones. Kids being kids. We want their summer experience to be educational and fondest memory of childhood.

Frequently Asked

Questions

  • Campers must be 6 years old or older. Campers are required to bring three large bottles of water, three snacks and a sack lunch to camp each and every day. Swimsuit, water shoes, towel for tubing. We do not provide these items. Parents are urged to dress students in sturdy jeans or riding pants, a hat, and lots of sunscreen. Riding boots are preferred, but a sturdy shoe is fine. Crocs, and flip flops are not acceptable on the stable grounds. Summer tubing: on those hot summer days we do walk up the creek and ride down the lazy river on tubes. Bathing suits, towel and water shoes are needed.

  • We cater to most styles of riding, including, Western, Western Reining, Barrel Racing, English, Jumping, Trail Riding and more. ALL styles are started with natural horsemanship riding techniques and basic horsemanship skills, learning to communicate with the horses as they do naturally. Focus is on respect and trust.

  • In the state of Colorado, horseback riding is considered to be an inherently dangerous activity. Horses, being a prey animal, have a natural instinct to flee when threatened. Having said this, we ALWAYS take every precaution to be as safe as possible. We match the rider to the most appropriate horse, and take every safety precaution. If this is a serious concern, references are always available.

  • All campers must be 5 years and older as of January 1, 2023 to attend camp. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced riders welcome.

  • Wearing helmets for any riding at the stable is MANDATORY - no exceptions. We do have a supply of helmets that are SEI/FEI certified. As supply permits we are happy to loan you a helmet for your lessons. At some point in your riding pursuits you may wish to purchase one of your own.

  • Boots or a sturdy shoe - sandals, Crocs or any open toed shoes are NOT permitted on grounds (except for tubing & swimming). Jeans or a riding pant. Sunglasses, sunscreen and hat are highly recommended

  • Horse Camp is suitable for all riders, and do make the specific needs or inherent abilities for each student part of our daily curriculum. Riders of all abilities can enjoy and develop fabulous skills at Horse Camp.

  • For parents with scheduling conflicts we are pleased to arrange extended camper care and supervision before and after the scheduled hours of camp (additional fees apply).

  • No refunds will be provided for camp fees. Under certain circumstances camp credit will be extended for another date when available.
